...And Did Not Deny Me

Tim Savage

Scripture
"I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me." (Revelation 3:8)
Observation
Isn't it true that we all feel sometimes that we have little strength left to do the work of the ministry? It could be that we have been running hard for a long time and we're just worn out, or it could also be that there is just more to be done than there are people and time to do it. Whatever the reason, I think we all know what it's like to feel overwhelmed. I'm moved by John's words to the church "...You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me."

God knows what we're going through, He knows our pain and our joy; sometimes He has us in a season of feasting and sometimes a season of famine. While we certainly never enjoy walking through the tough times, it's often necessary for our growth to reach our potential. We have to long for Him, cry out for Him, relentlessly pursue Him, but sadly I rarely do that when in times of plenty.
Application
In the times when I'm financially well off or professionally successful, I don't take the time or the effort to really give my sacrifice to Him. I'm usually too busy accepting credit, awards or accolades to bow down and worship Him in the way that He deserves. But when I'm broken and frail I reach out to Him with my entire being - heart, mind and soul - it's then that He can fill me, otherwise I'm too full of myself to have any room for Him.

Rewards await those who persevere through the hard times, who work through weakness. Not man-made rewards, but heavenly and eternal rewards that only our Heavenly Father can give.
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Many of us are in need of Your strength and courage to continue our journey. Please give us guidance and direction for our future.

In Jesus name,

Amen
